The Pacifica series has had a strong following since the first work was painted in 2001. Capturing the essence of New Zealand’s coastline, Pacifica celebrates the iconic native plants that flourish in this habitat. Vibrant with colour and impasto texture, the signature element is the perspective which allows the foreground native plants to both frame the view and draw the viewer further into the landscape. The Pacifica series appeals to buyers with an affinity to this special environment, both in New Zealand and abroad, with paintings held in private collections in NZ, Australia, USA, Brunei, China, Europe and the UK.

“The inspiration for my Pacifica series is directly outside my studio window. With the Tasman Sea at my doorstep and a prolific native garden, I’ve a multitude of willing models. Among the striking sculptural plants that are featured in this series are Harakeke (Flax), Toetoe, Karo, Kawakawa (Pepper tree), Ti kouka (Cabbage tree), Ponga (Silver Fern), Mamaku (Tree Fern), Pohutukawa (NZ Christmas tree), Raupo-taranga (Poor Knight’s Lily), Nikau Palm and the lush tropical form of the Puka. My paintings feature both impasto and sgraffito paintwork with multiple glazes of rich colour giving the finished work depth and vibrancy.”

‘Many people, like me, are passionate about our stunning New Zealand beaches and I enjoy working with these collectors to create a painting of personal significance to them. I have had the pleasure of painting for international and New Zealand art collectors who have treasured memories or photos of coastal New Zealand which I then translate into a ‘Pacifica’. Working from location, and reference photos I have taken from around New Zealand, I also paint a variety of Pacifica works exclusively for my mailing list. As a result I have completed Pacifica paintings of many beautiful areas in the North, South and offshore Islands of New Zealand.”
